Many Kindle reviews noted the sluggish performance of the Silk browser, but you can quickly increase the speed by changing a few settings. In addition to turning off Flash and changing the browser from desktop to mobile view, turning of Silk's touted acceleration feature will all make Silk faster.
Lifehacker alum The How-To Geek provides these tips and makes an argument for not using a desktop browser mode on a 7" screen. All three tips can be accessed in the Silk browser by tapping Menu, then Settings and making the changes in the screenshot above.
Keep in mind that many sites, including YouTube, can operate fine without Flash. If you need to regularly access a site that no longer works you can of course reverse these settings at any time.
